Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth! Psalm 100:1
Reformed theologian John Calvin, from whom much of our theology is derived, said that music is one of the most important parts of worship in the Christian church. Music plays a central role in worship at First Presbyterian of Greer and there are multiple opportunities to worship God through song. From the youngest child “making a joyful noise,” to adults ringing handbells, to our Praise Team, the opportunities to sing praises abound!
Chancel Choir – Youth and adults combine to sing in the Chancel choir and they perform a wide variety of musical styles, from spirituals to classical to traditional hymns. They add their beautiful music to the 11 am worship service. New members are always welcome and encouraged. Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights. Contact Lisa Dillard with any questions.
Praise Team – The Praise Team plays and sings regularly for 8:55am worship on Sundays. If you enjoy a variety of musical styles in worship, this is a great place for you! Instrumentalists and singers are always welcome. Contact Wendi Arms.
Resounding Joy Handbell Choir – Not many church handbell choirs have over 5 octaves of handbells and chimes. The church’s commitment to music is evident in the quality sounds that come from this group! The handbell choir plays in worship monthly and for other special worship services throughout the year. This committed choir often attends handbell conferences to hone their skills and learn new music. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights. Contact Lisa Dillard.
Children’s Music – Our children love to sing as much as we love to hear them! There is an opportunity for nearly every age group to sing in worship and at special events throughout the year. It is always a highlight in worship when our children take center stage to sing glory to God! Contact Lisa Dillard.
Cherub Choir – For ages K3 through K5, the Cherub Choir learns of God’s love through singing, movement and a variety of instruments. Rehearsals are in 3-4 week blocks and are combined with Sunday school several times per year. The best part is watching their smiling faces. The second best part is watching the faces of the congregation! Contact Lisa Dillard.
Grace Notes – 1st through 5th graders have fun praising God through a variety of instruments including Orff, handbells and chimes. Grace Notes rehearses as a part of our Wonderful Wednesday programs from 6:15 till 7:15.
Instrumental Ensembles – Youth and adults who have at least 1 year experience are welcome to use their talents for worship. Ours is a musical congregation as we have ensembles for woodwinds, strings and brass! Opportunities for worship are approximately twice per year.
