Committees
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN COMMITTEES

 

I.    PERSONAL FAITH AND FAMILY LIFE

A. Bereavement Committee: Provide sympathy, solace and concern in an immediate family of deceased. Coordinate dinners, cards, telephoning, visits; continue support as necessary. Members serve on teams of 12 and are called on a rotating basis.

B. Birth Committee: Arrange a meal for new families. Visit and deliver a rose and a white Bible for the new baby. You may be called upon once or twice a year to prepare one dish for a new family.

C. Brides Committee: Keep an up-to-date policy for weddings, receptions and for the use of the Bride’s Room. Inventory equipment and prepare Bride’s Room for weddings.

D. Intercessory Prayer Committee: Establish and coordinate a prayer ministry for church members’ prayer requests on a weekly basis. Members of this committee stay in contact with their ongoing prayer concerns (prisoners, sick people, people in crisis) through visits, cards or letters.

II. CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY ACTION

A. Big Thursday Committee: The Big Thursday committee plans our church’s participation in the Big Thursday bazaar to benefit Greer Community Ministries. 

B. Joy Gift Committee: The Joy Gift Committee arranges the reception to be held after the annual Joy Gift Service in December. This committee is also responsible for a few of the arrangements for the Joy Gift Service itself.

C. Victoria Arms Committee: The Victoria Arms Committee provides ministry from our church to the Victoria Arms Retirement Center located across the street from the church. Members of this committee participate in such activities as organizing monthly birthday parties for the residents, visiting individual residents, and/or providing services such as haircuts and transportation.

D. Hospitality/Clean-up Committee: The Clean-up committee provides kitchen help for receptions and Joy Gift. Also responsible for taking the tablecloths used at these functions to the cleaners (church will pay for cleaning) and ensuring they are hung back in the storage cabinet. Members are called upon as needed, usually on a rotating schedule.

E. Hospitality/Reception Committee: The Reception Committee is responsible for coordinating special receptions (not including Joy Gift). Will arrange for volunteers to provide light refreshments (i.e. put up sign up sheets), servers and table decorations.

III. ECUMENICAL MISSION AND RELATIONS

A. Institutional and Educational Support: Provide updated information about our Presbyterian institutions such as Columbia Seminary, Presbyterian College, Thornwell Orphanage, Rabon Gap, etc. Arrange to have representatives from these institutions come to present programs.

B. Global Missions: This committee has not recently been an active committee. If you are interested in Global Missions and would like to see Presbyterian Women more actively involved in this cause, please sign up. The committee can determine their own direction. (The White Cross and Global Missions were combined into one.)

C. Birthday Offering: Plan Birthday program in Spring and receive offering for causes chosen by the Presbyterian Office of Women’s Work.

D. Community Outreach: Give support to a Presbyterian Women’s project in the Community. The committee will follow-up on proposed projects to determine which project would fit the goals set forth by the Council. They would be instrumental in getting the project started.

IV. LEADERSHIP AND RESOURCES

A. Flower and Christmas Decorating Committee: This committee oversees the flowers for worship by posting sign up calendar. Oversees the care and upkeep of the Christmas decorations. Decorate/undecorated the church for Christmas by making advent wreath, decorating outside doors, sanctuary, banisters and downstairs hall. Order Easter Lilies and oversee their placement in the sanctuary at Easter. Sometimes helps with flowers for special occasions.

B. Tape Ministry (Audio and Video): Tape all worship services and special events and keep the copies in the library for lending. Make copies of these tapes for those who request their own copies.

C. Parlor Committee: Oversee the care and maintenance of the church parlor. Maintain a current set of rules on the use of the parlor by church members and others.

D. Bulletin Board Publicity: Use bulletin board in lower hall to publicize Presbyterian Women activities and upcoming events.

E. PW Nominating Committee: The chairman of Leadership and Resources is the chairman of this committee. Responsible for selecting the women to fill the Presbyterian Women Council each year. Council includes: Moderator, Co-Moderator, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Cause Chairmen and Circle Leaders (although circles are asked to pick their own leaders). Work begins in January and Officer slate is voted upon in a congregational meeting in April, with Officers being installed at the Birthday Offering Celebration in May. New Officers begin office in June. Also responsible for filling any Council vacancies during the year, this does not include committee chairs. Committee consists of a representative from each circle and others as needed.
